The tournament saw Novak Djokovic extend his unbeaten run to 20 matches as he came from a set down to defeat World No. 1 Rafael Nadal 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 in an exciting final on Sunday. He also defeated Roger Federer in the Semi-final on Saturday, his third win over the former World No. 1 in 2011. On the women’s side, last year's runner-up and current World No. 1 Caroline Wozniaki took the title Sunday at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden with a 6-1, 2-6, 6-3 win over France's Marion Bartoli. The 36th edition of the BNP Paribas Open was the most successful tournament in its history, achieving an attendance milestone with 350,086 fans attending the event.
